Streaming Technologies
A major difference between DVC and other systems is that DVC utilises the latest in streaming technologies, including RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocols ) both Unicast and Multicast.
This has much lower bandwidth implications on your school network and also means that teachers are not waiting for chapters to load before being able to play.
Bandwidth
DVC produces top quality video results and yet is extremely bandwidth friendly. DVC typically streams DVD quality at 1Mbps . This means that if you have a 1GB network (which has been the Government departments of education standards for many years), you could have 1000 separate streams running simultaneously.
Because DVC also utilises Multicast, you could have 200 students watching a multicast stream and this would only equate to a single stream on your school network. So all 200 students could watch a live view of a school production, or a lecture which would only take up 1Mb on your network.
What video formats will DVC play?
DVC will play virtually all common video formats:
MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4 (including DivX), ASF, ASX, WMV, H.264.
If a new and improved video codec (format) emerges, DVC will simply add this codec as a free upgrade across the web.
How much storage do I get?
DVC comes in 3 sizes, 2TB, 9TB and 17TB. An 9TB system gives you approx 15,000 hours of video. A 17TB system gives you approx 35,000 hours of video.

.
The DVC server
The DVC Server is extremely high grade, in fact it is built to Australian military specifications (a DVC customer).
The servers utilise SuperMicro mother boards from the US and are configured as RAID6. Hard drives are Enterprise level hard drives rather than what you would normally find in an office or home PC. These are the highest quality hard drives available.
The operating system is mirrored on two separate 3.5” drives. A front mounted LCD is available to indicate status of the drives and system etc.
If a hard drive does fail, there is already a redundant had drive mounted in the DVC server. The LCD unit will let you know which drive is faulty. You have a choice - simply swap the redundant drive with the faulty drive and the system rebuilds itself, or call the DVC warranty team and they will come and do that for you within 24 hrs.
3 Year On Site Warranty
DVC server hardware comes with a 3 year on-site warranty that provides 24hr turnaround times for anywhere within 50Kms of Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne or Perth. This warranty is provided on top of whatever other installation warranties your DVC dealer/installer may provide.
Single Server for all DVC functions –
Digital Signage
Camera Management
Storage
Capture
What back up is provided?
DVC is entirely flexible when it comes to back up. There are 3 choices:
- Purchase a redundant server from Command Systems
- Purchase a DVC backup server from Command Systems
- Provide your own back up facilities
DVC has a built in utility that allows for incremental backups overnight to whatever system you choose.
