Customers Requirements
Newcastle Grammar School (NGS) were looking at purchasing 3 separate systems within their school.
- A digital media acquisition/storage and delivery system that allowed teachers fast and simple access to all digital content such as video and supporting documents/images etc from their existing PCs, Laptops and Interactive Whiteboards.
- A security camera system.
- A digital signage system (School message Board).
The DVC solution:
When NGS looked at DVC, they found that DVC was able to meet all of their needs and requirements with a single elegant solution/system while also offering many other features and functionality that they had not previously thought of.
NGS uses DVC to capture both free to air and Foxtel (satellite TV) using the simple single click built in Electronic Program Guide. As well as recording TV shows and films, NGS have used DVC to digitise their existing tape and DVD collection, which staff found very simple to do. NGS now has over 15,000 video titles on their system and has not had to purchase any other 3rd party content (DVDs etc) as they were doing so previously.
Teachers and students are able to log into the system from any laptop or PC around the school using their existing Active Directory password and search and stream both stored videos and documents and even live satellite and free to air TV.
Administrators are able to send messages such as scrolling text, documents or even video to any PC, laptop, Interactive Whiteboard or TV around the school.

“We have over 13000 items currently on the system and this number increases daily. We capture a lot of free to air TV which is always being used. Our staff have taken to this technology like ducks to water. The system is not just a large PVR, but also caters for IP based cameras for recording of lessons for staff undergoing QTP accreditation, can also use the cameras for security recording.
Other functionality, includes message boarding and the ability to send lockdown, fire alerts to all computers and message board at once”….
